MAC® & Inmar to Feature NDT Test Systems for Tube, Bar and Wire at Tube India 2024

MAC is pleased to announce its participation in Tube India, one of the premier trade shows for the tube and pipe industry. NDT Test instruments and systems for inspecting tube, pipe, bar, and wire will be featured at our booth B 30 in Hall 2. Highlights of the booth will be the Minimac® II eddy current tester for inspecting small diameter tube, and information on the recently shipped MAC’s Spin-the-Tube system for testing transverse and longitudinal defects, lamination and measuring wall thickness.

Representing MAC at the event will be Business Development Manager Parag Nag, an expert with over 30 years experience in the Indian Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) industry. Parag is an active member of the Indian Society for Non-Destructive Testing and is well-versed in technical sales, key account management, and customer-focused solutions. His extensive industry knowledge and commitment to fostering strong relationships make him an invaluable resource for those seeking guidance on NDT technologies and applications. Attendees of Tube India are encouraged to visit the MAC booth to meet Parag and discuss innovative NDT solutions tailored to their specific needs.

Watch the Minimac® II demonstration that uses a linear rail unit with an eddy current test coil to inspect ½” diameter stainless steel tube. Capable of detecting short surface and some subsurface defects, including laps, slivers and cracks in tube, bar, and wire at speeds up to 4000 f.p.m., the Minimac® II offers high reliability and performance at an economical cost. This eddy current instrument is also often used for inspecting welding wire, including flux core wire where it can detect missing flux as well as flaws in the wire itself. Finding weld-line faults in tube and checking continuity in single and multi-conductor insulated wire and cable are other applications. Using an MID option, the Minimac® is also very effective for detecting magnetic inclusions in non-magnetic product

Learn about the cutting-edge “Spin the Tube” ultrasonic test system, designed to deliver high-precision inspection of seamless carbon steel tubes ranging from 219.1mm to 500mm in diameter. Destined for a mill in India, this system utilizes MAC’s powerful Echomac® FD-6 multi-channel electronics to provide reliable and accurate results.

Within the system, tubes are advanced in a helical pattern along a sophisticated conveyor runway that rotates them past test heads, which rise from beneath. What sets this system apart is its innovative Automatic Pitch Control (APC) design. APC automatically adjusts the surface ride rolls for each tube diameter, maintaining a consistent pitch to ensure accurate testing. The transducer holder can also move to either end of the water box, minimizing untested ends and maximizing efficiency.

Fully integrated with the plant’s control systems, the PLC-powered Conductor interface allows for easy operator control of the operation via a touch screen. Equipped with 60 channels of Echomac® electronics, the system detects longitudinal defects in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions, transverse defects in forward and reverse directions, while also measuring wall thickness and identifying lamination issues.

Data on the Echomac® 25mm UT Rotary, designed for high performance applications such as tubular product for nuclear and aerospace installations, will also be available at the booth. This full body test equipment provides 100% coverage at high throughput rates on product ranging from 5 to 25mm diameter. The 630mm overall length of the rotary allows for ease of installation when upgrading existing inspection lines. Wall thickness as thin as 0.4mm and tubes as short as 1.2 meters can be successfully tested. The 25mm Rotary is part of MAC’s line of UT Rotaries which range up to 500mm capacity.

Visit the MAC booth (B30, Hall 2) at Tube India 2024 to explore our complete range of advanced eddy current, ultrasonic, and flux leakage test systems, designed for the precise inspection of tube, bar, and wire. Discover how MAC’s 95+ years of expertise in developing nondestructive test equipment for tube, bar, and wire manufacturers can enhance your quality control and streamline your production process, with solutions tailored to meet your inspection needs.
